There’s no need for expensive construction or extra plumbing lines. Hot Spring Spas are all self-contained portable units. Simply fill with a garden hose. You will need power to run the spa. Many Hot Spring models operate on 115 volts, minimizing your electrical costs. Every Hot Spring model can operate on 230 volts as well. Your dealer can help you determine which voltage best suits your needs. More related questions.
Once your spa is delivered, you just fill it up with a garden hose. Set the temperature and you’re done. Enjoy!
SIZE
Will you have friends and neighbors over? Do you have kids who will use it? Will we all use the spa together? The "capacity" listing on hot tubs does not necessarily mean this is the number of people that will sit comfortably in every household and family. This is a guideline for consumers.
Try each seating position; not every seat in every spa will be right for you. Spas with barrier-free seating let you move easily from one seat to another to experience the variety of jets. Bucket or contoured seats may restrict your ability to scrunch down or move around in the spa. Water depth should be just over your shoulders. Is there lumbar support for your back?
Make sure the jets are in the right position for you, and that the pressure can be regulated. You should get a vigorous massage, not a painful one. Can jet pressure be individually adjusted?
Can the jets for an individual seating area be completely turned off for quiet soaking while the others remain on?
Is there a variety of jets that will target major muscle groups?
Is there a timer you can easily set to run your jets for a limited time?
How loud are the jets and pump?
Hot Springs offers a wide variety of jets designed and placed for exclusive therapy and relaxation that you will not experience in other hot tubs.
Is it easy to get in and out of? Are there any obstructions that you could trip or stub your toes over? Does the spa have a cool-off bench? Great for kids, entrance and exiting the spa, or for just cooling off a bit.
LOCATION
Location and accessibility is key, the easier the spa is to enter and exit, the more often you will use it.
Whether you plan on using your new hot tub indoors or outdoors, hot tubs are for relaxing. Consider the view you'll have (or your neighbors might have!); which way you want the spa to face (towards the backyard or the house?).
There are many factors to consider for installation of a new hot tub. Our experienced staff is available to come to your home, evaluate your site, and offer suggestions for proper placement, support, delivery access, and optimal relaxation for every situation. Learn more about delivery access.
All of our hot tubs are designed to go outdoors, and most often enjoyed outdoors. Learn more about our Energy Efficient Hot Tubs.
All of our hot tubs can be installed indoors. While most enjoy our spas outdoors, particularly during the colder months, we always recommend that you install your new hot tub where you will use it the most. Spas are always covered except when in use, therefore humidity is not an issue. Avoid hardwood and carpeted areas, utilize area rugs, bathers bring water with them as they exit.
QUALITY CONSTRUCTION
Look for top quality materials and workmanship; these will ensure your spa costs less over the long run and brings you superior satisfaction. Distinguish between the valuable features you need and the bells and whistles that may cost more to maintain.
Look for a spa shell made of high-impact thermo plastic or ABS-backed acrylic to minimize the possibility of delamination, cracking and blistering. ABS-type thermo (polymer) plastic is used in high-stress items like football helmets and stadium seats. Is the spa shell structurally sound enough not to need additional framing to prevent structural damage?
Is it UV-stabilized, low maintenance? Check the skirting's warranty. Is it aesthetically pleasing, or does it look like vinyl siding? Are there nails or staples showing, do the parts fit seamlessly together? Is the bottom sealed to keep out moisture and insects? What kind of base is needed on which to place the spa? Can the spa be shimmed?
Heaters can be the most vulnerable component of the spa. Titanium or high-grade stainless steel elements and heater housings are designed to avoid corrosion due to water chemistry imbalances. Read the warranty: Is the heater warranty invalidated by improper water maintenance? Hot Spring NO FAULT heaters are covered under warranty regardless of water chemistry. All Hot Spring Spas heat automatically with no programming.
Consider the type and amount of insulation. Hot Spring spas are not just fully foamed, but also totally insulated. We use closed-cell insulation like the type used in commercial freezers. Ask for a written energy guarantee and look for independent third party ratings.
The cover and pump systems will also impact the energy efficiency of your hot tub.
The spa cover should include a proper heat seal (gasket) and skirting; a well-sealed cover should require a bit of a tug to open. Dedicated circulation pumps offer maximam filtration and energy efficiency.
Not all spas filter the same. Many require programming for the spa to circulate and filter the water. Hot Spring spas provide continuous balanced filtration 24 hours a day, automatically with no programming. All the water passes through the filters even when the jets are running (when you want clean water the most).
Filters are top-loading and easy to get to.
The circulation and filtration system is designed to direct body oils and debris from the water surface to the filters rather than let them accumulate on the side of the spa.
Demo models will tell you about the spas filtration system: Is the water in the spas in the showroom crystal-clear? If not, maybe the filter system of this brand of spa is not up to snuff.
Look for dedicated pump systems. This means there is a small pump that 24 hours a day quietly and efficiently circulates and filters the spa water, as well as a separate jet pump. Circulation pumps keep your water cleaner, are more energy efficient, and do it all with no programming or NOISE. Many spas use a dual speed pump (this is a jet pump) which may require programming as to when you want the spa to circulate. When these pumps come on to "circulate" and filter the wateryou will hear the jets running.
Dedicated pump systems mean your pumps are dedicated to one single job (rather than kicking off and on several times a day), therefore will last longer.
Don't be fooled by horsepower, higher pump horsepower does not necessarily mean better therapy, but it certainly does mean higher energy costs to operate. Feel the jets and how they perfom. Consider the noise when you will be using the spa. Learn more about jet therapy.
Hot Spring controls are designed to be user-friendly and easy to operate. Many spas have dual speed pumps that require programming in order for the spa to circulate and heat. Hot Spring spas circulate and heat automatically, no programming is required: you set the temperature and forget it! Should a power outage occur, there are default settings to allow the spa to re-heat automatically and no programming is required.
Hot Spring spas require no plumbing. They are filled and emptied using a garden hose. A full-sized (~1.5") drain in the bottom of the spa provides 100% drainage, no bucketing or bailing water. There is an external garden hose fitting with a valve, so you simply attach a garden hose and once the hose is in place, open the valve. It's all accessible from the exterior of the spa: no tools required and no worries about unwanted water while draining.
All Hot Spring spas have locking covers; four locking straps that require a key to open and enter the spa. The control panels are all able to be locked, whether you lock in the temperature or all the controls so the jets may not even be turned on.
